Acylium ion

Acylium ions consist of a general structure R-+C=O where R could be H, alkyl or aryl.

The carbon generally holds the positive charge but this ion is resonance stabilized.

In mass spectrometry, we will see this group as a fragment ion which could indicate the presence of a carbonyl group.
