Biosafety cabinet class III

This type of cabinet provides a physical barrier between the user and the microbes. Air is pulled in from the side of the cabinet through a HEPA filter, while the front aperture is sealed. You can use the cabinet through a pair of gauntlets: extra thick gloves that run up past your elbows.

While in theory, this provides the greatest level of protection, the thickness of the gauntlets makes handling smaller containers difficult and makes spills more likely.

Front view includes four glove ports for arm entry, a viewing panel and two filters at the top, one exhaust HEPA filter and one supply HEPA filter. On the left is an airlock. Arms enter through glove ports, contaminated air hits gloved arms and is pumped up the back to the top exhaust HEPA filter where it exits the cabinet. HEPA filtered air enters through the supply HEPA filter at the top.
