Habitat protection is vital to species conservation, as their dietary, temperature and nesting requirements need to be met.

Turtle conservation, for example, puts effort on protecting the eggs and nests by adding fencing or by restricting access during the breeding season.

As most threats come from human activity, a way of protecting fertile adults consists of identifying what particular aspect is being affected (for example, food or habitat availability) and trying to minimize it.
