Digestive System

The digestive system is designed to facilitate the transformation of food matter into its nutrient components.

The digestive system is labeled from 1 to 8. 1. The mouth. 2. The esophagus is a tube that goes from the mouth to the stomach. 3. The stomach is connected to the small intestine. 4. The small intestine is a long tube that is connected to the large intestine. 5. The large intestine is a large tube that goes around the small intestine. 6. The liver is close to the stomach. 7. The gallbladder is close to the liver and stomach. 8. The pancreas is close to the stomach and large intestine.

The mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, and liver are part of the digestive tract through which food passes. In addition, the accessory organs, the gallbladder and pancreas add secretions (enzymes) and are regulated by hormones in response to the food consumed.
