Diploid organisms

Diploid organisms are characterized by having two alleles at each genetic position, or locus. These organisms have two copies of their chromosomes, and they are called homologous chromosomes. For a particular gene, depending on the combination of alleles the organism is: homozygous, heterozygous or hemizygous.
