Flowability of particles

The term flow is more often associated with fluids than with solids. Since bulk solids are a large collection of tiny particles, the term may also be used when these particles are moving. Bulk solids should be regarded as Hookean solids and not as Newtonian fluids. As opposed to fluids, bulk solids at rest can transmit shear stresses.
