Fundamental Niche

The fundamental niche represents the entire set of environmental conditions under which an organism or species can survive and reproduce. The fundamental niche must be experimentally determined since the natural world may provide limited environmental opportunities. The fundamental niche hypervolume should completely include the realized niche.
