Galvanic Cell Potential

In a galvanic cell, both oxidation and reduction reactions occur. The potential of the cell can be calculated from the reduction potential of the two half-reactions using the equation:

E_Cell = E_Cathode - E_Anode the electric potential of the cell equals to the electric potential of the cathode minus the anode's electric potential

A positive cell potential means the reaction occurs spontaneously and the cell generates power.
