Impact of Algal Blooms
Algal blooms can form as a result of nutrient pollution in fish farming. They are harmful to the aquatic ecosystems because they can reduce the ability of fish and other aquatic life to source food. This means that they will either leave or die due to the lack of food.
Algal blooms also create dead zones, which are areas of little or no oxygen. In these zones, there are not sufficient levels of oxygen to support the aquatic life in the ecosystem. Not to mention algal blooms are photosynthesizing organisms and so block the sunlight to organisms part of the ecosystem that also rely on the sunlight for photosynthesis.
