Insula

The insula is a smaller structure that is not visible externally, as it is deep within the lateral sulcus. It remains a heavily researched brain area and is not yet well understood. Research suggests that it has various functions, ranging from processing sensorimotor information, self-awareness, decision making, and social emotions such as pride, lust, and disgust, among others.
