Iodine solution

Iodine solution or Lugol's reagent has yellowish brown color. Iodine interacts with and binds to a structure in the starch molecule, forming a structure that transmits a dark bluish black color.

There are two test tubes. The first test tube is the negative result and contains a yellow solution. The second test tube is the positive result and contains a black solution.

Monosaccharides and other polysaccharides cause no color changes.
