Lipid catabolism
The first step of lipid catabolism is the hydrolysis of triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol. The glycerol is converted into glucose by way of gluconeogenesis. Fatty acids can be oxidized through a process called beta oxidation. This results in the formation of acetyl CoA, or succinyl CoA, depending on the number of carbon atoms in the fatty acids. Both of these molecules are intermediates of the Krebs cycle.
