Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur (December 27, 1822 - September 28, 1895) was a French scientist, famous for his work in vaccination, microbial fermentation, and pasteurization. He indicated that wine or beer spoilage could be prevented by heating the drinks to 57°C/135°F for a few minutes. The heating treatment to stop food and beverage contamination become known as pasteurization.
