Myenteric plexus
The myenteric plexus is part of the enteric nervous system, which is responsible for regulating the digestion process, and it is located throughout the gastrointestinal tract between longitudinal and circular muscle layers (Figure 1).

It functions autonomously, but also contains the ganglia for the parasympathetic nervous system. In physiology experiments using intestines, this plexus is always present so its influence is noticed.
