Nerve Plexus

A nerve plexus is a predictable, networked pattern of specific ventral rami that merge and divide, giving rise to a complex maze. The nerves that arise from a nerve plexus contain fibers from several levels of ventral rami. This is an advantage because if there was ever limited injury to the spinal cord, a nerve that contains fibers from several levels of ventral rami could remain functional.

The ventral rami outside of the thoracic region form four nerve plexuses: *Due to significant overlap between the lumbar and sacral plexuses, they are sometimes referred to as one plexus, called the lumbosacral plexus.
