Nervous Tissue

Nervous tissue is one of four general types of animal tissue, along with muscle tissue, epithelial tissue and connective tissue. It is compromised mostly of neurons and glial cells. Neurons are specialized cell types that generate and conduct nerve impulses. Glial cells support neurons by providing nutrients, removing debris, insulating electrical impulses and coordinating activity of neurons.
