Peripheral Nervous System

The nervous system is a body-wide system that is essential for sensing stimuli and regulating body functions. The nervous system's organs are physically connected, consisting of the brain, spinal cord, and all of the nerves attached to the brain and spinal cord.

The nervous system is organized into two major parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The PNS is made up of nerves. All nerves are part of the PNS and can be categorized by their site of attachment to the CNS. Nerves that attach to the brain are called cranial nerves, and nerves that attach to the spinal cord are called spinal nerves.
