Reverse Transcription

Reverse transcriptase is an enzyme produced by retro viruses to convert their RNA genome into DNA strands. In vitro reverse transcription is commonly used in research to produce complementary DNA (cDNA) from mRNA or other types of RNAs. This is very useful because PCR and all the methods that rely on it can be applied only to DNA strands.
