Hazard group 1

Hazard group 1 is a group of organism that is unlikely to cause human or animal disease. Hazard group 1 has no or low individual and community risk.

Examples of Hazard group 1 organism: Bacillus subtilus, Naegleria gruberi, Escherichia coli, Infectious Canine Hepatitis Virus

The biosafety level suitable for working with Hazard group 1 is Biosafety Level 1 (BSL-1). Work in BSL-1 may be done on an open bench top with Safe Microbiological Techniques. Biosafety cabinets are not required.
