Hazard group 4

Hazard group 4 is a group of organism that causes serious human or animal disease and that can be transmitted from one individual to another. Hazard group 4 has a high individual and community risk because effective treatment and preventive measures are not usually available.

Example of Hazard group 4 organism: smallpox virus, Ebola virus, hemorrhagic fever viruses.

Biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) is required when working with Hazard group 4 organism.
