Solubility

Solubility is a physical property of a chemical substance, called solute, to dissolve in another chemical substance, called solvent.

The solubility of a chemical depends on the polarity of the solvent (e.g. water) and the amount of energy it takes to break the intermolecular forces of the solute. Because it takes a lot of energy to break metallic bonds, metal is insoluble in water.
