Transforming Growth Factor Beta
Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) is a cytokine that belongs to the transforming growth factor superfamily. There are mainly four different isoforms (TGF-beta 1 to 4).
After binding to TGF-beta receptors, the TGF-beta signaling cascade is initiated.
TGF-beta plays an important role in many cellular processes, such as differentiation, chemotaxis, proliferation, and activation of many immune cells. Because of that, its role has also been investigated and linked to abnormal processes like cancer, auto-immune diseases, or infectious diseases.
