Volatility

Volatility is a measure of how readily or willingly a compound vaporizes. Vaporization describes a change in the state of matter of a compound, more specifically from a liquid to a gaseous state.

As a result, the volatility of a compound is intimately linked with its boiling point. The boiling point is simply the temperature at which a compound vaporizes at a given pressure.

We say distillation separates based on boiling point but we are also separating compounds based on their intrinsic volatility property.
