White Matter of the Spinal Cord

Like the gray matter, the white matter is also organized into multiple areas, called ventral, dorsal and lateral columns.

The columns contain tracts that carry sensory information ascending to the brain and descending tracts that carry motor output towards the muscles and effector organs.
