Insulin Syringe

Syringes used for insulin self-injection are characterized by markings indicating insulin standard "units" (and not mL) (Figure 1). They are designed for the injection of standard U-100 insulin.

This image shows a standard medical insulin syringe still sealed inside its sterile plastic and paper blister packaging. The syringe is marked with a black scale ranging from 10 to 100. These markings represent units, which is the standard measurement for insulin. At the right end of the syringe, there is a bright orange safety cap covering the needle. This orange color is a universal coding used in medical settings to identify insulin-specific syringes.
