Solution

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.

  • Solute: a substance which dissolves in a liquid (or solvent) to form a solution.

  • Solvent: a liquid which dissolves other substances.

Example: If you make a salt solution by mixing salt and water, salt will be the solute and water will be the solvent.

The terms ’concentrated’ and ’dilute’ refer to the relative amount of solute in the solution. A dilute solution is a solution with a low concentration of solute. If there is a high concentration of solute, the solution is concentrated.
